About Rhinoplasty

A rhinoplasty, also known as a “nose job,” is a surgical procedure designed to alter the appearance and structure of the nose. It is one of the most commonly performed plastic surgery procedures in the country, with tens of thousands of procedures performed each year. (1) This procedure can be performed to address a wide range of different concerns, including those that are aesthetic, functional, and/or reconstructive. Dr. Gerzenshtein can perform a cosmetic rhinoplasty to help reshape certain features and balance your facial proportions. On the other hand, a rhinoplasty may also be performed to correct deviated septa and disrupted airflow. (2) These aspects can be combined thoughtfully during the same procedure.

Benefits

There are several benefits you can experience with rhinoplasty, including:

  • Enhanced Aesthetics: A rhinoplasty can help elevate your facial balance, refining your appearance.
  • Increased Self-Confidence: Improving the appearance of your nose can help boost your self-esteem.
  • Improved Breathing: A functional rhinoplasty can help optimize your airflow if your breathing is obstructed by your nasal structure.
  • Permanent Results: Unlike non-invasive methods that require regular maintenance treatments, rhinoplasty provides long-lasting results that can revitalize your appearance for several years.
  • Personalized Treatment Plans: Each procedure is tailored around your needs and anatomy, ensuring each concern is addressed and that the results align with your expectations.

Candidates

Rhinoplasty can be performed on patients across all genders and backgrounds. You may be an ideal candidate if you are dissatisfied with the size, shape, or symmetry of your nose and wish to refine its appearance. Anyone experiencing breathing concerns or other functional issues may also make a suitable candidate for a rhinoplasty.

Anyone interested in this procedure should be in good general health without any underlying medical conditions that may affect their recovery or results. It is also important that realistic expectations are held and that the candidate’s nose has sufficiently matured. (1) Patients should also be nonsmokers or willing to quit in preparation for the procedure.

If you do not meet each of these criteria, you are still encouraged to schedule a consultation so that our team may find a suitable alternative for you. At Finer You, we offer a wide range of treatments that can help you achieve your aesthetic goals.

Personal Consultation

The first step in rhinoplasty is a personal consultation with Dr. Gerzenshtein. During this meeting, he will explain what the rhinoplasty procedure involves and what techniques are best suited for your circumstances. He will engage in an open discussion with you to learn more about your medical history, concerns, and treatment goals. He will also evaluate your nose’s internal and external structures to identify any areas of concern.

Using the information provided, Dr. Gerzenshtein will craft your tailored treatment plan. He will provide you with a set of tailored pre- and post-operative instructions, as well as an estimated price quote for your procedure. Throughout the consultation, Dr. Gerzenshtein will also answer any questions you may have.

Preparation

Proper preparation is essential before undergoing a rhinoplasty. You will need to discontinue any medications and supplements with blood-thinning effects. You may also need to make certain lifestyle changes, such as avoiding alcohol and ceasing nicotine use. Time away from work and other commitments should be taken, and you will need to arrange transportation home from the procedure. It is also strongly advised to arrange for at-home care during the first 24-48 hours of your recovery and pick up any prescriptions before your appointment. Any additional pre-operative instructions will be discussed and provided to you during your consultation.

Procedure

On the day of your procedure, you should arrive at our office with a clean face, free from any makeup or skincare products. Upon your arrival, you will be led to a private room where your skin will be cleansed and sanitized. General anesthesia will be administered for a pain-free procedure, but local anesthesia may also be used if you are undergoing less extensive corrections. At Finer You, Dr. Gerzenshtein can perform either the open rhinoplasty or closed rhinoplasty techniques, depending on your goals and nasal anatomy.

Open Rhinoplasty

When performing an open rhinoplasty, Dr. Gerzenshtein will place an incision across the columella, or the area of tissue between your two nostrils. This approach allows him to fully view the underlying structures of your nose, allowing for more precise and detailed adjustments. This approach is best if you are undergoing a more complex procedure or correcting the results of a previous rhinoplasty. (3)

Closed Rhinoplasty

A closed rhinoplasty utilizes incisions made completely inside the nostrils. This approach essentially eliminates the appearance of external scarring but also offers limited visibility to the underlying nasal cartilage and tissue. (3) Dr. Gerzenshtein may perform a closed rhinoplasty if you are seeking minor modifications or a subtle refinement.

Once the incisions are made, Dr. Gerzenshtein will modify the cartilage and bone using several different techniques. He may remove excess tissue, reposition underlying bones, or place a cartilage graft to help reshape or reinforce your nasal structure. Cartilage grafts are often taken from either the septum, the ear, or the ribs. (2)

Dr. Gerzenshtein may also address functional concerns that are affecting your breathing, such as a deviated septum or congenital irregularity. Once the corrections and modifications are complete, he will redrape the skin and carefully close the incisions. You will then rest until you are ready to go home.

Recovery

When recovering from a rhinoplasty, you will need to follow each instruction provided to you by Dr. Gerzenshtein.

During the first week of your recovery, it is common to experience swelling, bruising, or discomfort around the treatment area. These effects are temporary and will gradually subside on their own, but may also be managed using pain medications. You will also need to wear a splint or cast during this time, which will help minimize any swelling and protect the new structure of your nose. After approximately seven to ten days, you may be able to return to work and other light activities. However, you will need to continue avoiding strenuous tasks or physical activities for at least one more week.

Results

Rhinoplasty Dr. Jacob Gerzenshtein Finer You

The results of your rhinoplasty will become increasingly more apparent as your nose continues to heal. You will be able to enjoy a gradual improvement in your nasal sculpt, symmetry, and profile. You may also experience an improvement in your breathing and overall nasal function if any structural irregularities were corrected. The results of both an open and closed rhinoplasty are permanent, allowing you to enjoy your enhanced appearance for years to come.

Corresponding Procedures

Several procedures can be performed in conjunction with your rhinoplasty, one of the most popular being the facelift. Also known as a rhytidectomy, facelifts aim to restore a more youthful-looking appearance by tightening your underlying facial muscles and removing excess skin. This treatment can help with visual signs of aging, such as wrinkles, creases, jowling, and more, offering both surface-level and underlying revitalization.

The cost of your rhinoplasty can vary depending on several different factors. Dr. Gerzenshtein will provide you with a comprehensive cost estimate during your personal consultation once the details of your treatment plan are determined.

Finer You also offers several flexible financing plans to help you attain your goals more easily, and our team will happily help you navigate these options.
