Before and After Photos

About Breast Augmentation

Breast augmentation continues to be one of the most commonly sought-after cosmetic procedures. (1) Patients can choose from a variety of implant types, shapes, and profiles, as well as different incision and placement techniques, to create results that look natural and harmonious. Dr. Gerzenshtein offers several types of implants, including:

Saline Implants

Saline implants are filled with a sterile saltwater solution and are inserted empty, then filled to the desired volume once in place. (2) This allows for smaller incisions and adjustments in size during surgery. Saline implants are known to provide a firmer feel.

Silicone Implants

Silicone implants are pre-filled with a cohesive silicone gel that closely mimics the feel of natural breast tissue. (2) Many patients choose silicone implants for their softer, more natural look. They are also considered to be less likely to cause rippling compared to saline.

Gummy Bear Implants

A gummy bear implant is a type of silicone implant made of a highly cohesive silicone gel that maintains its shape. These implants are often chosen to improve projection and further reduce the risk of rippling. They only come in a ‘teardrop’ shape in the U.S. and may require a larger incision to place. (3)

Benefits of Breast Augmentation

Some of the most notable benefits of breast augmentation include:

  • Restoration of breast volume lost after pregnancy, weight loss, or aging
  • Enhanced breast shape and symmetry for a more balanced look
  • Greater control over size, projection, and profile through customizable implant options
  • Long-lasting results
  • Improved self-image and confidence

Ideal Candidates

Because breast augmentation offers a large degree of customization, it is suitable for a wide range of candidates. However, ideal candidates generally:

  • Are in good overall physical health with no underlying medical conditions that could impede their ability to undergo or recover from the procedure
  • Desire to increase breast size, improve shape, or restore lost volume
  • Are at a stable body weight
  • Have realistic expectations about what the procedure can achieve
  • Are willing to follow all preoperative and postoperative care instructions for proper healing

Dr. Gerzenshtein will establish whether you are an eligible candidate for breast augmentation during your personal consultation.

Personal Consultation

The consultation process is essential for achieving the best possible outcome. During this appointment, Dr. Gerzenshtein will review your medical history, assess breast anatomy, and discuss aesthetic goals in detail. Patients will be able to see and feel different implant options to visualize potential results. This meeting will help you and Dr. Gerzenshtein determine incision placement, implant type, size, and profile. By the end of the consultation, patients leave with a better understanding of the breast augmentation process.

Preparation

Once you have established your treatment plan, the preparation phase begins. Dr. Gerzenshtein will give each patient preoperative instructions that may include avoiding medications and supplements that can thin the blood, stopping nicotine use and alcohol consumption several weeks before surgery, and arranging for transportation and postoperative assistance (if necessary). In some cases, lab work or medical clearance may be required prior to breast augmentation. Preparing properly helps reduce surgical risks and supports a smoother recovery process.

Procedure

Once you are placed under general anesthesia, Dr. Gerzenshtein begins breast augmentation by making carefully planned incisions, often in the inframammary fold beneath the breast, around the edge of the areola, or in the armpit. The incision used depends on the patient’s anatomy, implant type, and personal preference, and will be established during your personal consultation.

Once the incision is made, a pocket is created either above the chest muscle (subglandular), below the muscle (submuscular), or partially beneath the muscle (dual-plane). The dual-plane method often provides the most natural-looking results, combining the soft tissue coverage of submuscular placement with the enhanced lower breast fullness of subglandular placement.

Dr. Gerzenshtein uses precise surgical techniques to minimize tissue damage and ensure symmetry. After the implants are positioned, he will close the incisions and apply supportive surgical dressings.

Recovery

After breast augmentation, patients typically wake in recovery with dressings and/or a supportive bra in place. Once they are fully awake, they can return home accompanied by someone who can provide assistance for about two days. Fatigue, swelling, bruising, and tightness are common during the first week but improve steadily as the breasts continue to heal over one to two weeks. Nausea, constipation, and numbness may occur but usually resolve on their own. We recommend following pain management instructions, staying hydrated, walking regularly, and monitoring incisions. Dr. Gerzenshtein will be available to provide you with personalized post-op care guidance, including how to care for incisions, wear support garments, and when to increase activity levels. Most patients can return to light activities within a few days, but strenuous exercise should be avoided for several weeks or until Dr. Gerzenshtein approves.

Recovery experiences after breast augmentation vary from patient to patient. Regular follow-up appointments will be scheduled to monitor healing and ensure the best possible outcome.

Results

Larger, fuller breasts are visible right after breast augmentation surgery. However, swelling and implant settling will affect the appearance in the first few weeks. As the implants settle and tissues relax, the breasts take on a more natural shape and position. Final results are generally apparent within a few months, revealing the improved symmetry, proportion, and fullness. In many cases, the results can last for many years before implant replacement is recommended.

Corresponding Procedures

Dr. Gerzenshtein can combine several treatments with breast augmentation to achieve more complete results. Some popular additions include:

Breast Lift

A breast lift, or mastopexy, can be performed alongside breast augmentation to address sagging and restore a youthful breast position. While implants add volume and shape, a lift repositions the breasts and nipple-areola complex and tightens excess skin. This results in a more elevated, balanced appearance. This combination is ideal for patients who have lost both volume and elasticity due to aging, pregnancy, or weight loss.

Breast Revision Surgery

For patients who have had previous breast augmentation and wish to change implant size, improve symmetry, or address complications such as capsular contracture, a breast augmentation can be performed as a type of breast revision surgery. This allows for the correction of prior issues and the creation of a fresh result that aligns with current goals.

Tummy Tuck

A tummy tuck, also known as abdominoplasty, removes excess abdominal skin and tightens the underlying muscles. Many women choose to combine a tummy tuck with breast augmentation as part of a comprehensive body contouring plan. This approach can dramatically improve overall body proportions and create a more youthful, defined silhouette.

Liposuction

Liposuction can be added to breast augmentation to sculpt surrounding areas such as the flanks, back, or bra line. By removing stubborn fat deposits, liposuction can complement the enhanced breast shape and further refine a patient’s contours.

Cost of Breast Augmentation in Tampa and Lakeland, FL

The cost of breast augmentation depends on several factors, including the type of implant selected, the surgical techniques used, and any additional procedures performed. On average, the price can range from around $6,500 to $10,000. Since breast augmentation is often considered an elective cosmetic procedure, it is generally not covered by insurance.

Financing options are available for patients who prefer to pay over time. Dr. Gerzenshtein will provide patients with a detailed cost breakdown following their consultation.
