Description
Natrelle Moderate Profile Saline Implants
Breast implants come in many different shapes, sizes and materials. Patients are able to choose which implants they get whenever they undergo a breast augmentation. After deciding to go through with the procedure, the patients’ first choice is to pick the type of implant that they will have. The most common implants are silicone implants and saline implants. The patient featured elected Natrelle Moderate Profile Saline implants for her breast augmentation.
The Difference Between Silicone and Saline Implants
It is a common misconception that saline implants feel “fake” compared to silicone implants. When placed on a table side by side, silicone implants are softer and smoother than saline implants. However, once the implants are placed under the muscle it is difficult to tell the difference between saline and silicone.
The surgical procedure is somewhat different for saline and silicone implants. Silicone implants come filled prior to augmentation are then inserted through the incision site. Unlike silicone implants, saline breast implants come deflated. Saline implants are filled during the procedure. The implant manufacturer provides a fill volume for each implant. Typically, it is recommended that the implant be filled 10% over the volume in order to avoid rippling and other complications.
In most cases, the patient has the final say on which implant will be used. Saline breast implants are used on patients under the age of 22, as regulated by the FDA. Aside from age, the cost of the implants is another reason why a patient may elect to undergo a breast augmentation with saline implants. Saline breast implants are approximately $1,000 less than silicone breast implants.
